Suburb Spotlight: Winter Haven

What’s not to love about the City of Winter Haven! Upon moving to the Davenport area about 9 years ago, I stumbled upon the City of Winter Haven. Rich in history, atmosphere, and character, Winter Haven is one of my favorite places to take a drive to and is not so hidden gem!

Located just between the Orlando and Tampa areas (about 50 miles either side), Winter Haven is home to tons of waterfront properties, waterfront restaurants, and canals.  Just 30 miles to most theme parks, the location could not be better suited for those who really want the best of both worlds, meaning a quiet place to get away, and a quick drive to all that Central Florida has to offer. Known for Water Skiing and Water sports as well as the canal built in 1915, the city is really a dream for any water sports lovers.

If you want to avoid the beach traffic, this a great place to check out with several public docks for taking the boat out for the day!

Winter Haven has the most beautiful downtown area lined with boutiques and outdoor eateries, and coffee shops and is neighbored by the beautiful Central Park which frequently holds craft fairs, events and live music events. The downtown is easily walkable, lined with bricks and strung with lights.

Artwork lines the streets and you can find beautiful murals throughout the downtown area created together by local talented artists.

The downtown area is also home to the very first Publix, opened by Mr. George Jenkins in 1930 which has been beautifully transformed into the now, well known, TEMPO 1930. You can’t get a PUB SUB there anymore but you can now find a fantastic patio, live music, good eats and drinks.

The Ritz Theatre, built originally in 1925, is a beautiful piece of history as well. Located in the town center and features local shows, and talent but at one point also screened movies! It is  currently being remodeled and brings so much life to the downtown area. Shows there are really a lot of fun, and you feel like you are in the big city!

Winter Haven was originally established in 1911 and was quick to grow from there. However, In recent years, Winter Haven has seen a huge resurgence in the areas of new construction and home sales while still keeping prices affordable, while offering all of the Florida living lifestyle we have grown to know and love.

The City has truly found the perfect balance between “old is new again,” staying true to their roots, but continually growing and building, creating a great oasis and quality of life.

You will not be disappointed with a day in In Winter Haven. Everyone is welcome, and it always feels like home with tons of history and lots to do!

The people of Winter of Haven have done a great job of bringing the city to life and creating a an experience that it truly like no other.

There is something for everyone! Looking to get away from the hustle and bustle? Truly a Haven, this town is something to see, feel, and experience.
